Ursula Krechel
Dear Mrs. Minister
This event is in German.
Ursula Krechel is one of the most important voices in contemporary German literature. In 2012, she was awarded the German Book Prize for her novel “Landgericht” (District Court).
In her latest novel, Krechel explores complex and fraught mother-son relationships through the intertwined stories of three women: Eva Patarak, a herb seller whose son retreats behind his computer screen and won’t speak to her; Silke Aschauer, a Latin teacher tormented by monthly physical pain; and an unnamed Federal Minister of Justice. Together, their narratives form a cultural history of women and their resistance to the physical and psychological violence inflicted upon them.
