KYIV – (KEEP-) WRITING
With Tanja Maljartschuk
To mark the second anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, this evening will be devoted to literary texts about the city of Kiev. The novel “The City” by Walerjan Pidmohylnyj (1901–1937), a masterpiece of modern Ukrainian literature focuses on the social upheavals of his time. Starting with this text, which has only recently become available to German readers, the author Tanja Maljartschuk will discuss the role of the Ukrainian capital in literature since the 1920s, as well as the resilience of Keep Writing (in Kyiv) in the 2020s.
Unfortunately, Halyna Kruk (currently Writer in Residence in Basel) and Alexander Kratochvil (tanslator) had to cancel their participation in the event.
