IGIABA SCEGO
Cassandra in Mogadishu
The conversation will be held in Italian and translated into German.
The reading will be in German.
‘At the moment, Igiaba Scego is probably Italy's most interesting writer’ (Der Spiegel) In her acclaimed auto-fictional novel, the author seeks to create a bridge between the intertwined histories of Mogadishu and Rome. But how can you tell the story of a family scattered on the winds of the diaspora and which no longer shares a common language? The novel is about a childhood in the bush and schooldays in the north of Rome, about the transgenerational wounds of colonial history - and about the great hope that lies in storytelling.
It will be followed by a preview of the arte film ‘Kulturkampf auf Italienisch’ (Language: German). A powerful documentary film about current Italian literature and how the Meloni era is changing the way we look at culture. Scego appears in the film.
Admission to the film is free!
