In June 1958 an exchange of letters began, which in almost 300 surviving documents – from the time they met until long after their separation – bears witness to the life, love and work of one of the most famous couples in German-language literature. A love that also left traces in the books of Ingeborg Bachmann and Max Frisch. The letters, expertly annotated by Bachmann and Frisch scholars, show a new, surprising picture of the relationship and calls traditional assessments and attributions of blame into question.
